Our latest customers in Fort Wayne, Indiana wanted something a bit different than the typical epoxy garage flooring application. Their request was for more of a “Black Granite” look in their three car garage. Not only the “Black Granite” look, but they wanted the floor to be anti-slip as well (the garage is between their in-ground pool and home and they didn’t want to cause a trip and fall situation from dripping water while walking back from the pool area) .
After diamond grinding the entire floor to allow our industrial epoxy to permanently bond the the floor surface, we filled the expansion joints with our Flex Joint filler to have a seamless look across the whole garage floor. Then, after several other (mostly boring) preparation steps, we broadcast a blend of mica chips into wet black epoxy. The following day we scraped, swept and vacuumed the loose mica chips and applied our first top coat.
The final day involved sanding the surface a couple of times to knock down any mica chips, vacuuming again and using a wet micro fiber cloth to cleanup the rest of the dust. Then a final scratch resistant urethane top coat was rolled on (with added shark grip for slip resistance).
